I am thrilled to unveil our newest podcast in the Latitude Media roster: Open Circuit.
This one means a lot to me personally. It brings together two of my longtime co-hosts, Jigar Shah and Katherine Hamilton, two very influential figures in the clean energy industry. I also know it means a lot to many of our former listeners who have been asking over the last four years if we would ever get back together as a podcasting trio.
In 2013, while I was an editor at Greentech Media, the three of us launched The Energy Gang. During our eight-year run as co-hosts, the show took on a life greater than we expected. We developed a following of tens of thousands of listeners who relied on our collective analysis — and sometimes heated debates — to give them needed context in plain language. When President Trump took office in 2016, our listenership expanded rapidly as people turned to us to help sort through the noise.
In 2021, our co-hosting era ended. Jigar stepped in to lead the Department of Energy’s Loan Programs Office, where he transformed the lending process and steered tens of billions in investments toward clean technologies. Katherine intensified her work at 38 North Solutions, helping craft and pass the Inflation Reduction Act, and then guiding the implementation of its groundbreaking programs.
The landscape has shifted dramatically since then. COVID-era supply chain disruptions sparked fierce global competition for control of the multi-trillion dollar clean energy market. But the pandemic also ushered in a period of political upheaval — both in the U.S. and across democracies worldwide — creating uncertainty around how industrialized nations will approach decarbonization.
The podcast industry has evolved too. Listeners now have countless options, including industry-leading shows from our own Latitude Media network — Catalyst with Shayle Kann, which offers brilliant deep dives on climate tech investing and tech trends; and The Green Blueprint, which profiles the founders, investors, and organizational leaders who are architecting the clean economy.
But we kept hearing from former listeners that they needed something specific: clear, actionable analysis of the week’s most important developments to help them cut through the noise and focus their attention where it matters most.
That’s why our tagline is “the energy transition, decoded.”
What makes Open Circuit different is the unique chemistry and expertise we bring to every episode. Jigar brings unmatched insight into both entrepreneurship and the private/public deployment of clean energy. Katherine offers a deep understanding of how policy shapes markets, drawn from decades of work in utilities, private equity, and lobbying. And I’ll be there to guide our conversations with an editorial lens across technology, policy, and markets.
Whether you’re an industry veteran or just starting to explore this space, we hope Open Circuit will give you the context you need to understand what’s really driving change in the world’s most critical industrial transformation. And we promise not to be boring.
The first episode of Open Circuit drops on February 14, with episodes released every Friday. Listen to the trailer above, and subscribe on Apple, Spotify, or your favorite podcast app.
