The Green Blueprint pitch guidelines

The Green Blueprint is a narrative interview show about the architects of the clean energy economy. Each episode, host Lara Pierpoint profiles the founders, investors, engineers, policymakers, and organizational leaders who are doing the difficult work of scaling climate technologies. What does it take to bring new technologies from the lab to market? How do you construct first-of-a-kind projects, build companies, and secure the right kind of investment to support rapid scaling?

Our primary audience consists of decision-makers in the climate tech ecosystem and people who can make connections across climate spaces, including investors, policymakers, and entrepreneurs. We also serve a “climate curious” secondary audience of students, job seekers, and non-expert policymakers.

We’re looking for compelling stories that follow a clear narrative arc. The best pitches explain how they meet these three guidelines:

The pitch focuses on the journey of scaling climate solutions

  • We want to hear about the challenges, failures, and successes in bringing clean technologies to market
  • Stories should illuminate the complex set of technical, financial, and organizational challenges in scaling
  • We’re particularly interested in first-of-a-kind projects and novel approaches to deployment

The story has clear dramatic tension and resolution

  • Episodes start with a moment of crisis or difficulty that hooks the listener
  • There should be clear stakes and consequences
  • The story should provide concrete lessons learned and takeaways for others working to scale climate tech

The guest can speak authentically about both successes and failures

  • We’re looking for guests who can be open about what did – and didn’t – work
  • They should be able to discuss specific steps they took to overcome challenges
  • Guests should be able to speak beyond their own company to broader industry lessons

Our episodes generally fall into one of these categories:

Scaling Stories Following a specific technology or project from concept to deployment, examining the practical challenges of getting from lab to market. Examples:

  • Building the first iron-air battery factory
  • Deploying novel nuclear technologies
  • Constructing massive renewable energy projects

Crisis and Recovery Stories of near-failure, pivots, and lessons learned from setbacks in scaling climate solutions. Examples:

  • The downfall and rebirth of clean energy companies
  • Navigating technical failures in first-of-kind projects
  • Recovering from market shifts and policy changes

Cross-Industry Innovation Stories that examine how solutions are being scaled across different sectors and markets. Examples:

  • Bringing climate tech manufacturing back to the U.S.
  • Creating new financing models for clean energy projects
  • Building supply chains for emerging technologies

The Green Blueprint is a 30-minute narrative interview show. Episodes follow a three-act structure:

  1. The discovery – when the guest identified a problem to solve
  2. The difficulties – the journey from idea to execution
  3. The lessons learned – broader insights for the climate tech community
